The Simplex 3000 is a lock we have used on our outside door. It's so easy not to have to fumble around with keys any longer. I can open it one handed. Our first one lasted over 5 years and we are on our second one. It's good I watched the locksmith put in the first one because when it came time to put in the second one, 3 locksmiths mucked it up so we told them to take back the one they messed up, we ordered one and I put it in with the only problem being the keyed lock at the bottom is really decorative right now since I put it in just to plug the hole and haven't bothered to try again to make it work. We just ordered another one to put on the door going to our climate controlled mini storages and one of our maintenance men is supposed to put it in. Simple Simplex! What more can I say?
I have only had the need to replace existing units. Those that can not be serviced are swapped out. They are used many times a day and work very well. The parts that are needed and not supplied are easily moveable from the old unit to the new. Also have spoken with customer support an they have been helpful.
The locking screw that keeps the paddle open or closed is a soft metal, maybe brass, it strips out very quickly. I've had this lock only 3 month and replaced it once and now its stripped out again. DO NOT BUY!
Good lock. Please be mindful that you have to buy the internal parts separately. That fact is listed in the description, but I overlooked it. Only negative is that this lock is only good for one code. So if you wish to have multiple code numbers, do get this one. I had to watch a Youtube video on how to program it, but its pretty simple. Overall I'm happy.
If you purchase this, expect to move any existing handle to an unreasonable place on the door in order to have the pushbutton lock.
