    Making a Scene with Vera

Getting your smart home started has never been easier. You setup a smart controller, install a smart lock, pair a few other smart devices and you’re ready to go. Now you can come home and use your smartphone to unlock your keyless door lock, turn on the lights, change the thermostat, and tell Google Home to turn up your favorite music playlist. That’s basic smart home operation. But what if all of that happened at once, by itself, as soon as you unlocked your door? Now we’re tapping into the true potential of smart home automation, and it’s all done through the power of “scenes”.

Much like how a group of actors come together to perform a scene for a show, Scenes allow multiple devices to operate and work together once they’re given their cue. Using the example above, unlocking your smart lock starts the scene. Your smart lock sends a signal to your controller that a successful code has been entered, then the controller sends signals out to the other devices set up in your scene to activate. In this case it’s the smart lights, thermostat and Google Home.

Vera has further enhanced scene creation through the new Advanced Scenes feature on the Vera App, which uses AND, OR, and NOT conditions. You may be having flashbacks to algebra or computer science classes from school, but don’t fret as it’s not as tricky as it sounds. These logic conditions in the Vera App allow for step-by-step scene creation to aid you in crafting your own personalized smart home experience.

If you’re looking to start making some Scenes yourself or finally dip your toes into smart home automation, check out the new and affordable Ezlo Atom and Ezlo PlugHub smart controllers.
