  • Keyless Locks Provide Safer Place to Learn

A class of elementary school students learning in a classroom secured by keyless locks.

In this day and age, security is one of the most important factors for schools and colleges to consider. Without having a solid access control system in place, campuses can be vulnerable to a wide range of security risks that can impact the safety of students and staff.

As any school caretaker or administrator will tell you, managing the use of traditional keys and locks can easily get out of hand, especially if the facility has a lot of doors, or a full list of staff members to keep up with. You have to assign each person a key, carefully monitor the use of those keys, and then figure out what to do in situations where keys are lost or stolen. Not only that, but the wear and tear that traditional keys and locks typically endure will run your maintenance bills higher over time as well.

Fortunately, there’s a better way. You can ditch the tediousness and aggravation associated with traditional keys and locks altogether by installing keyless locks instead. What’s so great about keyless locks is that they are super-simple to operate and highly cost-effective, while also offering a greater level of security to your campus.

Instead of relying upon a key that can easily fall into the wrong hands, a keyless lock will only grant access to someone who can enter the correct code into the keypad–simply put, if you don’t have the code, you can’t get in the door. This means that you have a whole lot more control over who can gain access to campus rooms and facilities because you can decide how and to whom the codes are distributed. Not only that, but if you feel as if a code has been compromised, you can change it in a matter of seconds, and regain control without missing a beat. This beats the heck out of having to get locks changed and distributing new keys, which is a costly and time-consuming process.

So what types of areas on a school or college campus would be good candidates for a keyless lock installation? Try these:

    • Administrative offices
    • Storage cabinets
    • Medical rooms
    • Gyms
    • Locker rooms
    • Science labs
    • Equipment rooms
    • Utility closets
    • IT or server rooms
    • Kitchen area
    • Etc…

There are several keyless locks that can provide you with excellent access control capability to help keep your campus safe. For example, the Kaba PowerPlex P2031XSLL626 features multiple authority levels and operation modes, and with a 100-user capacity, it gives you all the flexibility you need to manage administrative rights with ease. It also features a Lockout Mode which suspends all regular user and manager codes (excluding the Master Code) in the event of an emergency. This lock can also be programmed to allow normal entry to classrooms during the day (for the convenience of the students), but then after hours, it can limit access to only those with appropriate user codes.

In practically every way, keyless locks are a much better security choice than their traditional counterparts. If you’re looking for a way to ensure that your school or college campus will be a safe place to learn, get rid of those old keys and make the switch to keyless locks.
